The ECB capability of securities

The ECB capability of securities is very important for diverse groups of investors, such as the treasury and money market departments of banks. The real-time database inquiry at the ECB allows one to check the ECB capability of securities beforehand. As of July 2006 there are approx. 25,000 securities in the database.

After entry of the ISIN number of the security to be checked, one of the two following queries appears:

  • Resulting number of records: 0
    Security probably not ECB capable
  • Resulting number of records: 1
    Security probably ECB capable

A positive result does not automatically justify a legal claim to delivery into the trust deposit of the ECB. Solely the registration at the Securities Announcement, or WM for short in German, is authoritative for acceptance by the ECB.
